There is no better feeling in the world than knowing you have given it your all!
This week has been what is nationally known as SATS week. There is a lot of debate about whether the tests are right for the children, right for schools, and around how the results are used. To us, SATS week is an opportunity for children to face a challenge, but a challenge that we have prepared them for, so that they can do their absolute best. We have been focused, ensuring we have given them the subject knowledge and skills needed to do their best, whilst equally providing a personal development curriculum that has built resilience, determination and self-belief. As a consequence, the children absolutely blew us away. No dramas, cool confident children who were in the zone and absolutely going for it, in every single paper! There was nothing easy about this year's papers, but that was not a problem, watching the pupils having a go, redoing, checking to make sure it was their best shot! We did reward the children with ice-cream and Bella's Mum made the fabulous cake, but the best reward we highlighted to them was their own feeling of achievement. Knowing they had done their best. Now we intend to roll with that feeling and promote enjoyment throughout the rest of their time with us. Making memories to last a lifetime. We have lots planned and they certainly deserve it. I wonder how many games of Uno I will play with my regular competitors! Our games go on for ages. I had better block time out in my calendar! We always say it, but this year we really mean it. These Y6 really are a fabulous bunch of children. Kind, caring but always up for some fun! They came in earlier and earlier last week for breakfast so they could help me set up and prepare the food. I never asked them to, it just happened. Just highlights what a family we are and how we respect each other.
In singing this term, as a regular theatre goer, (I do like feel-good musicals.) I have picked out songs from shows for us to learn. Somehow, without trying, I have created a Disney frenzy. I am not a Disney fan, but it appears the teachers and the children are! Some of the songs I picked the children already knew, which did give me an easy ride, but learning Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was slightly trickier. Did you know that Mr Popple is a Disney Princess Expert? The other lunchtime, the teachers had a Disney Princess Quiz whilst eating their meal-deals. Now Miss Knight-Francis is a Disneyland Paris Season ticket holder and he even beat her. Miss Martin, has seen every Disney film ever made and she was beaten! Mr Clough needs to work on his knowledge base! Not sure where we are going next with this, but it has certainly grabbed everyone's attention. Maybe we need a Disney Princess or Prince to visit us? I might just add that to my to-do list!
Enjoy the last week of term. I certainly intend to, spending time with the lovely children and staff of Farsley Westroyd!
