Is it really the last week?
How did we get to the last week of the school year? How did we get to the point of having to say goodbye to our fabulous Y6 pupils? It is going to be a hard assembly on Friday afternoon, as we say farewell to some very much-loved members of our Westroyd family. They really are a great bunch of children, full of personality and individuality and so caring. Watching them in their show the other night, that kindness and inclusive attitude really shone out to me. Another magic moment was watching one particular pupil, as he sang his solo beautifully whilst staring straight at his parent. It brought tears to my eyes. It was a beautiful moment.
Our talent show, as predicted, was a lot of fun. We were really grateful to Craig Timmins, our local counsellor and governor, who did not need asking twice to be one of our judges! He played the part really well. DJ David and his assistant, Cameron, were the voices of the children on the panal, and delivered their verdicts in the least number of words possible, but still got their point across. Only twelve acts made it through to the grand final, and they all did well as 75% of every class put themselves forward in the heats. It shows how confident our children are and how eager they are to shine their light! Big thanks also to the school council who organised the whole event.
So never a dull moment at Westroyd, an action-packed week ahead, mainly focused upon our Y6. I think Mr F is going to be exhausted by Friday. But he never ever complains. He tells me he loves every second, especially with this class!
Tomorrow, the teachers take on Y6 at rounders, which clearly the teachers will continue their success from last year. Mrs Hollingshead takes on her umpire role again, as impartial as always… Do come and watch if you can. Should be super fun! Then, we have Y6 and Y2 off to Filey beach for the day. I wonder who will be buried in the sand? As a professional beach goer for many, many years, when my family were young, I was tempted to join them. It is also a trip I have led for years as a class teacher, often with children who had never seen the sea, let alone paddle in it. For me, you can’t beat a great day out at the beach with children. Whether it be in the sunshine or the rain! Digging in the sand to Australia, eating sand sandwiches, looking for shiny pebbles, running to the sea and paddling and then trying to get your shoes back on your wet feet! Let's not forget eating ice-cream either! An age-old British tradition.
From how much he has been talking about it, I would say that the highlight of next week for Mr Popple, is not going to be editing our Autumn mid-term curriculum plans, but it is going to be taking Y6 bowling and laser quest! In true Westroyd spirit, he is out to win and there are going to be no concessions!
For me though, the highlight this week will be the Y6 prom on Wednesday night, seeing all the children relishing their friendships and making lasting memories!
