Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

TIMBER!

An exciting event at Farsley Westroyd Primary School and Nursery this weekend. The big tree in our Early Years Garden came down!  It was enormous! Sadly, part of the tree was dead, and we were advised by the forestry team that we must take it down. I feel better that we are part of the Leeds citywide project to increase the tree canopy and have planted quite a lot of trees in the grounds to compensate for such a loss. But health and safety must come first. Quite impressive how the skilled tree fellers took it down! They are true professionals! Now we have lots of wood chips too!

We had our transition afternoon this week, with the grand reveal of who was going where. There was a lot of suspense in the assembly, which I obviously prolonged as long as I could in the moment. I would say everyone is happy, there were no real major changes. A few tears at the thought of leaving their current teacher, but on the whole, excitement about meeting the new person and finding out what is to come. Our year group bucket list got the children very excited. Also, those teachers who moved year groups!

On Friday we had staff training, which was focused upon foundational skills in writing and maths and how we are going to further promote these in our daily teaching across all subjects! A big focus for us next year is to nail those key skills in core areas of learning, right from nursery, and expect the standard across all curriculum subjects.  The teachers have made some strong decisions based upon their observations and pupil feedback, which will have a significant impact. We will share more about that in our newsletter.

Two weeks to go! Do make sure you check the what is on for timings and dates. It is our healthy, happy week, this coming week. We have a large variety of workshops and visitors teaching our children to keep themselves physically and emotionally healthy and safe. I am really looking forward to the RNLI talk, especially with trips to the seaside on the horizon! In the middle of the week I am really looking forward to our sports day at Farsley FC on Wednesday. It is going to be a real social event with the café open for refreshments for our families. Proper community event with the children having fun and doing there very best!
