Welcome to Nursery!

Each week we'll be keeping you up to date with our weekly blog. In addition to this, please read our half-termly curriculum map to find out what will be happening in nursery. 

Important information

Please keep checking Tapestry to find your child's observations and information about their key worker. 

Nursery doors open at 8:55am. If you are coming into the school grounds earlier, please do not use any of the resources or equipment that have been set up. It is important our outside area is ready for a day of learning. 

Books

You will be able to change your love of reading book from our lending library basket every Wednesday. The basket will be available at pick up and drop off for you to choose and swap your books ready to enjoy and share at home. If your child accesses our wraparound, we will support them to choose a book to bring home. 

Spring 2

Week 5

This week we have been learning all about Eid and how it is celebrated. We have used our interest table and funky fingers area to explore more about the celebration. We have also been learning all about the role of a dentist and how to keep our teeth clean. It has been really exciting to dress up in the home corner. We have welcomed more sun this week and used it as an opportunity to make potions in the mud kitchen!

Week 4

This week we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and learning about the life cycle of the minibeast. We have loved ordering pictures and describing the different stages. We used our round and round marks to draw the body of a caterpillar. They are proudly displayed in our gallery! 

Week 3

What a wonderful week we have had. This week we have been so excited to welcome our caterpillars! We have been observing them closely. We have been talking about a special person in our life and making them a card. We have been recognising and ordering Numicon. 

Week 2

This week we have been learning the story Jasper's Beanstalk. We using Talk 4 Writing actions to help learn and retell the story. We loved using the puppets in areas of provision. This week we celebrated World Book Day. We all took part in a book swap, went on a character treasure hunt, used small world story scenes and took part in a buddy reading session with year 3. We loved it!

Week 1

Welcome back! We have settled right back into nursery routines and it has been amazing to see everyone coming in so happily! This week we have been learning all about pancake day. We have loved reading Mr Wolf's Pancakes and sharing our stories of making and eating pancakes. We have explored flour and lemons outside, used shopping lists to gather ingredients in the home corner and we added lemon juice to our dough! We finished off by learning a pancake poem with actions. 

Spring 1

Week 6

This week we have been so excited to learn about Chinese New Year. We have found out the different ways people celebrate. We created lanterns, explored different artefacts and took part in some dragon dancing! In Maths we have been using positional language such as on top, under, next to, in front of and behind. We loved apply this learning in a game outside!

Week 5

This week we have been learning all about rhyming words. We have been playing silly soup and looking for words that rhyme. It has been quite challenging but we have enjoyed using objects to help. We have been using round and round marks to draw the three pigs and some children even drew some amazing wolves! 

Week 4

This week we have loved learning the story The Three Little Pigs. We have been learning the story using Talk 4 Writing action and using props and puppets in our book corner. Outside we have been using hay, bricks and straw to make the houses in a small world. We have really enjoyed being outside this week and loved getting on the bikes and the climbing frame.

 

Week 3

This week we are joining in with the RSPB birdwatching week. We are reading books about birds and learning the names of some birds that are commonly found in the UK. We have been making binoculars to hunt for birds in our outdoor area and have been using checklist to see which birds we can identify. We have also been making birdfeeders to attract my birds to our outdoor area.

Week 2

This week we have been drawing and creating lots of snowflakes! We used our funky fingers area to warm our hands up by threading beads onto snowflakes and then practising drawing and painting crosses. We loved applying this to black card with chalk! We have been learning all about the number 4. We have used images, numbers and amounts to sort into groups of 4. 

Well done to all our new children for settling well in their first full week! 

Week 1

What a brilliant first week back we have had. This week we have welcomed new friends and they have settled so well. Children is class have been so kind and helping new children. We have been excited to explore signs of Winter and investigating ice. We used different tools to break their ice and describe it.

 

Autumn 2

Week 7 

What an amazing week we have had celebrating all things Christmas! We loved have enjoyed reading different Christmas books, taking part in elf and The Grinch yoga, creating Santa's sleigh outside and the best party day! We can't wait to welcome all our new friends in January!

Week 6

This week was our wonderful nativity. Everyone was brilliant! See tapestry for pictures. We have been reading Dear Santa and answering who/what questions. We have been using our body for percussions but clapping, tapping and stamping. We have been very busy making cards and decorations ready to take home next week. 

Week 5

This week we have been busy with everything Christmas! We loved decorating the tree and finding our elf in different places. We have been busy getting ready for enterprise and baking reindeer buns and Christmas tree brownies. We have been drawing ourselves and looking at our pencil grip. It have been amazing to see how much progress we have made from our baseline! 

Week 4

This week we have been learning the story Stickman. We have retold the story in our book corner using puppets and loved asking who and what questions. We found Stickman found in ice! We found different ways to free him and described the feeling of the ice. We have been learning to recognise, show and subitise 1, 2 and 3. We have been sorting the different amounts. 

Week 3

This week we have been reading Peepo and exploring old toys. We have been looking at different objects and asking questions about what things are and how they are used. We have been learning about the artist Kandinsky. We have explored different patterns and shapes and created our own artwork. We loved learning to different environmental sounds and playing bingo!

Week 2

This week we have been celebrating Odd Socks day. We used our Pol Ed lessons to think about how we can be kind and look after our friends. We have also been learning about Remembrance and its importance. We have been watching 'Poppies' and found out why poppies are important. We have been creating different poppies in areas of provision. In maths and fine motor we have been practising ABAB repeating patterns. 

Week 1

What a brilliant week back! Everyone has come back to nursery with such confidence and it has lovely to see we are straight back into rules and routines. This week we have been learning about all things Diwali and Bonfire night. Children have been so excited to share their own experiences and tell us about the fireworks they have seen. In class we have been learning about Diwali and firework dances and performing them. We have been reading the story Little Glow and we loved making diva lamps. 

Autumn 1

Week 8

What an exciting week we have had! This week we have been learning all things Halloween. We have been catching spiders and hammering into pumpkins in our fine motor areas. We have loved reading Room on the Broom and joining in with the repeating phrases. It was so exciting when we made spooky potions! we have been using lines and circle to draw spider's webs. 

Week 7

This week we have been using prepositional language. We retold the story Rosie's Walk using prepositional language . We retold the story Rosie's Walk using an obstacle course. We went over, under and around. We used the same language to describe where the teddy is in maths. This week we have been joining materials. We have been using tape to help make wind socks. We tested our wind socks when performing our Breezey Weather poems. 

Week 6

This week in maths we have been using paint and stamps to create a line pattern. We transferred this learning using the interactive board. We started a new book this week. We have been using Talk 4 Writing actions to learn the story Rosie's Walk. We used puppets to retell the story in the reading area. We love going on an Autumn walk. We went hunting for conkers, coloured leaves, acorns and squirrels. 

Week 5

This week we have read the story Owl Babies. We thought about how the character would be feeling and we used our zones of regulation board to identify the colour feelings. We have loved rereading the story and acting it out with puppets in our book corner. We used our circular motion to draw circle shapes for owl heads and bodies and used leaves for feathers. Some are displayed in our classroom! Miss Maybank brought her baby in and we learnt how to look after and care for a baby. Our home corner has a new baby highchair and lots of nappies to look after our pretend babies, Paul and Sofia. In maths we have been comparing the size of objects. We found ones that are big and ones that are small!

Week 4 

This week we have been busy colour mixing. We read the story Mixed and shared how we could make the secondary colours orange, green and purple. We explored making the new colours in our mud kitchen and in the painting area.

 

Week 3

What a busy week we have had! This week we have been reading The Colour Monster. We have been identifying feelings and the things that make us feel that way. We have used colours to help us talk about our feelings on our Zones of Regulation display. We have identified prime colours and objects in class that are those colours. We have been looking at our pencil control and drawing our faces ready for our gallery.

 

Week 2

We have had an amazing week in nursery. Our returning children have come back so confidently and independently. They have been brilliant role models for our new children. Our new starters have WOWed us! They have learnt our rules and routines so well and they have been exploring the different areas inside and outside. 

Week 1

We have loved meeting everyone during our home visits this week. If you haven't already, please make sure you have signed up to Arbor. We look forward to welcoming back children and seeing lots of new faces next week!
