Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

A school that is a Community

VE day at Farsley Westroyd

At Farsley Westroyd, we are a locally maintained community school. This is our official designation. However, to us, the word community is not just a label, but the core of everything we do.  There are in fact five key factors in a community.   A shared identity, common objectives, shared attitudes and values and an agreed code of behaviour. As a school, over the last five terms, we have worked together using the concept of marginal gains, to build our strong school community. We are proud and continue to build onwards and upward. This week, with it being VE day, we wanted the whole community to come together and celebrate and recognise such an important event in our history. Mr Clough and our parent governor, Mr Jones (Morgun's Dad to most of you!) planned an exciting and memorable two days. With workshops, visitors, bun sales, singalongs and a picnic lunch. The school was also decorated with Union Jacks, and we have created a time capsule to bury in the garden with bits from the two days! Who will ever forget Mr Clough's waistcoat! Didn't he look smart and proud?

Next week is an important week for our children in Year Six, with their statutory assessments. Having watched the marathon come through Otley this morning, I likened the determination I saw in the runners' races, with the determination and focus that we have noticed in the Year Six classroom in recent weeks. In life there is no better feeling than the one you get when you have tried your best. That is an achievement in itself. This is what we have said to the children. You do your best and make yourself proud! Let's do this Y6!
