From deep in the ocean in Hull to the Savannah plains of Doncaster!
This week our Year Three children travelled to the Deep in Hull as part of their exciting topic on Antarctica! They not only visited all the animals, but they participated in a workshop specifically on the animals and habitat of the polar regions. From looking at their writing since they returned, penguins and seals seem to be firm favourites! Meanwhile, in contrast, as part of learning in Year one on Living Things, the children visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park and participated in a mammal workshop! We have a deal whenever we go out and about. It started with if at least one random person commented on our excellent behaviour to earn sheep points. To now, it has to be at least four random members of the public comment upon our exemplary behaviour, we get ten sheep points. Both classes easily achieved this on their trips! In both venues, the venue staff said we stood out not just for our behaviour but our interest in what was going on.
Our Year Four learners this week have all completed their statutory MTC. (Online Multiplication Test). The children have been practising both in school and at home, motivated to do their best. Learning the facts now sets them up for UKS2, so that when they approach challenging reasoning questions they are not wasting cognitive time, trying to work out multiplication facts! I am going to miss my Wednesday afternoon TTR club, until I get new members in September 2025. It has been a joy seeing their scores improve each week!
We are now in the last six weeks of the academic year, and at the end of last week I had to nag the staff to make sure everything is always on our digital calendar, to avoid clashes. It is very, very busy from now on! Mr Fawcett has taken residency in the hall, to prepare for his Y6 show. Miss Hodgson is running about asking for volunteers for the school fair. I am practising some tricky songs with the choir for the Leeds arena. The children are practising for Westroyd's Got Talent and Mr Popple is busy making the order for takeaway pizzas on the Y3 sleepover! All lots of fun to come!
