Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

Always believe you can do it!

At Westroyd we always go out, do our best and believe we can achieve!

Sport is all around us at the moment, and it is no different at Farsley Westroyd! I have taken to hiding the remote control in my house this weekend, as I am determined that I will get to watch Wimbledon. I am competing with the F1, Ladies European football and the Tour de France, which other members of my household seem to prefer! But on Wednesday, in true determined Westroyd fashion, we had all three of our sports days! We had rain, wind and sunshine, but our children were not going to let anything get in the way of giving it their best shot and also having fun! We have some really athletic children and, thanks to our strong PE teaching, our children have solid functional skills, which they can apply to any sporting situation. I did feel a tad past my best when a Y2 pupil easily out jogged me. Thanks to the parents for taking part too, the children love it when this happens. Mr Popple was keen on a teachers' race, as there may have been some arguing in the staff room over who would outrun who! My backing would be with Mrs Hart!?

Last week we had our Health and Wellbeing week, planned by Miss Martin our PSHE lead and chief mental health leader. All classes participated in an array of workshops designed to ensure the children know how to keep themselves physically and mentally safe. NSPCC, JUST BEE Yoga, The Mill Kitchen cookery, Yorkshire water and the road safety team from Leeds City Council. In class, other activities were implemented, specifically around emotional well-being.

Another very exciting moment last week was taking a group of Y5 choir to Leeds Arena to perform. What an enormous venue and what a once in a lifetime experience for our children, to sing with a live orchestra, in front of 2000+ people and be filmed! It was a spine-tingling experience that brought tears to many eyes as, in true Westroyd style, we stood proud, sang our hearts out and enjoyed every single second. It was so good!

As we are now in the last two weeks of the term, it is incredibly busy. Bikeability, Y6 show, Reception Sharing assembly, Westroyd's Got Talent.  Do check the calendar, the what is on and if in any doubt, do drop us a message if you need to know anything. Can't wait for Westroyd's got Talent this week. We have a strong line-up of judges. Should be fun!
