Week One in the bag!
One week back at Westroyd, and we are swiftly back in the swing of things! When the staff came back on Monday for our training day, they were full of examples of how they had fulfilled the Westroyd approach to life of working hard and playing just as hard! Sounds like lots of fun and memorable experiences were had with their families and friends. Mr Clough had a wealth of entertaining stories to share about his summer, which included how many times he bumped into families from Westroyd! However, as much as I love our staff team, and how funny Mr Clough can be, the highlight of the week was without a doubt, greeting our children on Tuesday morning and seeing their happy smiles and catching up with all the news. There were lots of pleased to see you hugs, and it felt amazing to be back! In classes and playtimes, friendships were reinstated, and the usual games were played. There was a genuine happiness amongst us all to be back together.
The children continue to impress me with their sense of belonging to Westroyd. Right from day one, there was that constant question, “Do you have any jobs?” The children are so eager to contribute towards the running of our school! I even had two children come to the school door on the training day, asking if we needed any help setting up! We have our new Y4 assembly monitors trained up. Henry took the lead here from day one and made sure his team were all pulling their weight. Y6 are currently applying for the position of IT coordinator, which involves choosing and managing the music in assemblies and also being on hand at any point to sort out the IT dramas I frequently find myself in. Gurjeevan and Evie have already come to my rescue this week, as I was struggling to Bluetooth attach a new keyboard to my laptop!
Right across school, staff and children are, to use Mr Popple’s favourite phrase “Cracking on.” Everyone knows what the expectation is at our school, across all areas, and our daily routines are well embedded. Our new starters have been looked after by their classmates and blended in really well. I am sure that your children may have talked about the new adults in their lives this past week and so that you can get to meet the teachers in person for yourself, we have organised some meet-and-greet sessions. Do come along for a chat, see how lovely they are and ask any questions you may have. If you meet Mr Popple, do comment on his new tie. He is very proud of his pack of five ties that he bought to wear this year! A different colour for each day!
As a school, we are really proud of our children and the standard of education that we offer. You will notice we do like to showcase when we can. This year, to add to our Facebook, we also have an Instagram page. I spent the summer with teenagers, who taught me how to use Insta, whilst also constantly rolling their eyes at how long it took me to pull together a post/story!
But we never sit on our Loral’s, at Westroyd, and we have many plans for this year, to further improve, so that the children of Westroyd have the best primary education possible!
