Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery looks old from the outside, but following recent renovations, is modern, spacious, warm and welcoming on the inside! We are the only single-form school in Farsley, which enhances our family approach as we know all our children and families really well. Our size ensures we have the capacity to tailor to individual needs and foster individuality.
We are a split-site school and our recently purpose built, early years site is just down the road, which ensures our youngest children have lots of space inside and outside to play and learn. Our early years site is where the children start their primary school career, entering our teacher-led nursery and then into our Reception class.
Our purpose-built extensive Early Years site has two large classrooms. One for nursery and one for Reception. All children in the early years are taught by qualified teachers, and it is in the nursery where their Westroyd learning journey starts.
It really is a very spacious setting, high spec, with numerous break-out rooms, for small group work and a shared dining area. Outside, the facilities and grounds are large and just tremendous! We have our own art studio, an astro-turf area for physical games, outdoor stage, reading nook, mud kitchen, climbing frames, minibeast area, bike track, physical balancing, climbing trail and nature area. All childrenin Nursery and Reception have access to outdoor play and learning throughout the day. We are currently redeveloping our wildlife area and pond, with help from Greggs. This is part of our journey to establish ourselves as a forest school.
Our KS1 classrooms (Years 1 & 2) are located in our main school building. Our Year 1 & 2 children have access to their own outdoor play area, which includes a racetrack, astro-turf, climbing area and playground.
Our KS2 classrooms (Years 3 to 6) are also located in our main school building. Years 3 & 4 are located off the school hall and Years 5 & 6 have larger classrooms which are situated at the opposite end of the building. KS2 children access their own outside area in phase groups, which includes a climbing wall, exercise area, astro-turf, seating area, planting area and playground.
The school hall is at the heart of the main school building. It is here that we hold our breakfast and after-school club, assemblies and where our children eat lunch. We also teach indoor PE in this area, with outdoor PE being taught on the astro-turf areas.
Around school, we have a number of other rooms that we access for teaching and learning. We have a school library for all pupils to use and select books to support their love of reading. We also have a KS1 ASPIRE group room which is to support 1:1 or small group learning as well as providing a space for some of our children to access sensory activities. Our group room facilitates 1:1 or small group sessions led by our pastoral lead or learning support staff. It also has a small kitchen which is used to support cooking in the curriculum.
Due to the age and location of the school, we do not have a large playing field. However, we do manage to teach all of our PE curriculum on the school site. For some of our whole school events, such as sponsored walks and sports days, we use the local area or hire Farsley Celtic indoor or outdoor areas.
