Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

School Day

Children who arrive after the register has been closed will be marked late and on arrival you do need to report to the office. We are quite prompt at locking our gates, to ensure the children are safe and secure, and so that staff and children can start the days learning. If you are late to arrive, make your way to the office, so we can log their attendance and show them down to class. At home times, we do ask that you collect promptly. We understand that things can happen, so if, for some reason, you are going to be late picking up your child, please ring the office as soon as possible so we can reassure your child and make provision for them to be looked after in school until you arrive. Should it be a later collection, we do keep some adhoc wraparound spaces available each day to cater for emergencies.  Traffic, work, family emergencies, they all happen sometimes.

In Years five and Six, we are more than happy for children to walk home alone, as long as you have emailed us permission. We support the level of responsibility and independence this promotes for our older children. Especially as they move towards high school.

If someone different is going to collect your child, please ensure you have notified the school office and that the teacher is aware of this as a security aspect.  Over the whole week, our children attend school for 32.5 hours, which is in line with government guidelines.

Nursery:

Our specially designed educational school nursery provision is led by a qualified teacher and runs Monday–Friday 9am - 12 and 1 pm–3 p.m. This provision is supported by our child-care school Wrap Around sessions, which run from 7.30am up until the start of the school day and the after-school sessions from 3 pm until 6pm. This model creates an ideal way to use your 30-hour entitlement over three full days. Please contact the school office for more information on office@westroyd.org.  Our teacher-led nursery is very popular and we advise that you contact us as early as possible to ensure a place the term following your child's 3rd birthday!

Snacks/Milk

As part of the Government's School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, each child in Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2 receives a free piece of fruit or vegetable each day. All children are encouraged to try the fruit or vegetable therefore it is important that you advise us of any allergies your child may have.

Children in Years 3 to Year 6 are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack for break time such as fruit, veg, plain cereal bar or bread sticks rather than crisps, sweets or chocolate. Our healthy snacks checklist is on the website. We are a healthy school!

Milk is provided for all children up to the age of five.  Parents can choose to order and pay for milk in other year groups. This is free for children eligible for a free school meal. Parents need to set up an account with coolmilk and order and pay online.
