Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

Partnerships

Our school works in partnership with many groups, schools and organisations. Some of these partnerships are local and some are national.

Parents

Working in partnership with parents is of paramount importance to us here at Farsley Westroyd.  We believe that working closely with parents helps us deliver the best possible outcomes for all our children as we aim to ensure that all our children become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Cluster

Farsley Westroyd is part of a close-knit ‘Family of schools' in our immediate locality known as the Pudsey cluster. The cluster consists of primary and high schools who meet together regularly to share strategies for school improvement. We spend time in one another’s schools sharing good practice and learning and improving together and meet regularly to address the needs of the area and work in partnership with each other. Through this investment and partnership, our families and staff are able to access a wide range of services for support. Should you wish to contact the cluster, the Pudsey cluster website is http://pudseycluster.org or email pudseycluster@coopacademies.co.uk

Higher Education Establishments

Our school has a well-established link with Becketts University and City College and local highschools. We welcome higher education students into school at varying levels, as we know we can offer the expertise and nurture that will enable them to be successful. We promote everyone to continue to learn and make a positive contribution to society.

Teaching and Learning Partnerships

As a learning community at the cutting edge of teaching and learning, we welcome consultation, evaluation and quality assurance at all levels. As a local authority school, we are challenged and supported by our school improvement advisor, who also leads the Headteacher performance management. The local authority also supports and challenges our attendance and safeguarding procedures, with regular consultations. The school works with the West Yorkshire Maths hub and a sustaining school. We have access to classroom studies in schools across Yorkshire and regular visits to evaluate our Maths teaching by our consultant. We work with the West Yorkshire Early Reading Hub, based at Jerry Clay academy and, after a year of work, have seen a significant impact on our early reading outcomes. We continue our relationship as well as the one we have with Ruth Misken as a Read, Write, Inc school. The headteacher's practice is heavily influenced by work completed by the Educational Endownment Foundation (EEF) as well as working with Noctua, a local teaching hub, using skilled school-based professionals to aid evaluation and best practice. In this part of the city, we are very lucky to have a long, well-established family of schools, with strong support for the school, especially when sharing best practice approaches. Finally, the school is very lucky to be working with the world's leading early educationalist, Jan Dubiel on a research project into the Early Years curriculum, ensuring it is the right foundation for future learning in primary school.

Professional Agencies

To support the needs of all our children, it is important that we develop and maintain partnerships with a whole range of agencies.  We have good relationships with the School Nursing Team, Educational Psychologists, Social Care, Local Policing team, Area Inclusion Partnership, Community Health teams, and other professionals.

Professional Development

For professional support, we use Red Kite as our professional body for our early career teachers and University College London.  Red Kite is also our provider of National Qualifications, which most of our teachers work towards, for their own development. We work with the local authority for non-teaching staff to complete apprenticeships for their career progression.

Local Churches

Farsley Westroyd works closely with St John's Church in Farsley. We take part in special services at the Church at Easter, Harvest festival and Christmas. Both staff and children are involved in a carol concert held at the Church at Christmas.

Local Community

We celebrate our rich historical background and strong links to local heritage. We are strong friends with the local mill owners and the mill archive. Ask any child in our school, and they will tell you the importance of our little sheep in the development of Farsley through history.  I bet our Westroyders know more local history than the adults living in Farsley!

You will often see our children out and about on Town Street, usually singing on our way to visit the local businesses we have made relationships with! Currently, we are working on a big sustainability art project with Scrap and Grumpies. (The world's best Pizza Shop)! With our sheep-themed banner we led the other schools out at the Christmas light switch on last year!

Local Businesses

We have a strong relationship with the Gregg's factory in Bramley. They regularly volunteer for projects around the school and are never shy  sharing their products with us, for fundraising!

Our favourite café at the end of our street, CAF, keeps our staff happy with their yummy coffee and treats! Watch out for us singing outside again at Christmas!
